Windows Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing problems with your Windows operating system, you may need to troubleshoot it to find the cause and fix the issue. Troubleshooting Windows can involve checking the system settings, the device manager, the registry, the event logs, and other tools. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot Windows:
- Identify the problem. Try to narrow down what is causing the issue, such as a specific program, device, or feature. For example, if your computer is running slow, you may want to check the CPU usage, memory usage, disk space, and startup programs. - Use the built-in troubleshooters. Windows has several troubleshooters that can help you diagnose and resolve common problems, such as network, audio, printer, and hardware issues. To access the troubleshooters, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot. Select the type of problem you want to troubleshoot and follow the instructions. - Update Windows and drivers. Sometimes, the problem may be caused by outdated or incompatible software or drivers. To check for Windows updates, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates. To update drivers, go to Device Manager, right-click on the device you want to update, and select Update driver. - Run a system scan. You can use the System File Checker (SFC) and the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tools to scan and repair corrupted system files. To run these tools, open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands:
- sfc /scannow - dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- Restore Windows to a previous state. If none of the above steps work, you may want to restore Windows to a previous state using System Restore or Reset this PC. System Restore can undo changes to your system settings without affecting your personal files. Reset this PC can reinstall Windows and either keep or remove your personal files. To use these options, go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and choose either System Restore or Reset this PC.
